In the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, Nandyal, recorded a voter turnout of 76.81%. The voter turnout in the 2014 Assembly elections was 72.08% and in 2009, 69.88% of Nandyal’s voters came out to elect their Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).

NANDYAL HISTORY
Nandyal is situated in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh, which is surrounded by districts of both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It is bordered by the state of Mahabub Nagar in its north, Anantapur in its south, Praksam in its East and Bellary, a district in Karnataka in its west.
The town was originally called Nandalluru. It derives its name from Nandi, the vehicle of Siva. Aalaya means house/ dwelling in Sanskrit. Since it is surrounded by nine nandis it is called Nandi Aalaya which, over period of time, became Nandyala or Nandyal, the present name of the place. These nine temples are Garudanandi, Krishnanandi (also called Vishnunandi), Mahanandi, Naganandi, Prathamanandi, Shivanandi, Somanandi, Suryanandi and Vinayakanandi.
These temples draw pilgrims from various places. Nandyal had a population of 200,746 at the time of the 2011 Census.

YSR Congress party (YSRCP) Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in a meeting with the party leaders in Visakhapatnam district, released the party’s poster that details ‘Navaratnalu’. As the name suggests, through nine large-scale welfare schemes, the YSRCP offers benefits worth a minimum of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per year.
